The Joliet West Tigers took their season win total up one to 9-4 on the year after opening the new year with a 75-40 thumping of their cross town rival Joliet Central on the Steelmen's floor Friday night dominating every aspect of the game. The game was respectable in the first quarter though West finished on top 18-10 but the Tiger trap defense was simply stifling as they created 31 turnovers in the game and by half it was a 42-20 West lead. 6'9" tiger senior center Marlon Johnson was unstoppable and dominating as he put on a show for the near capacity crowd. Johnson finished with a double/double performance of 12 points and 10 boards and showed his ability to run the floor and finish in transition while his teammate Carl Terrell led the team with 15 points on a 3 of 4 shooting night from behind the arc and kept the Tigers focused throughout.

The Steelmen started 4 guards against West and as a result were manhandled in the post out rebounded on both sides of the ball and simply could not keep the West front court off the glass. We have seen a ton of good teams out there and West is most certainly among the best. If this team plays like they did against Central and as their head coach Like Yaklich said limit their turnovers 10, there is no reason not to believe the Tigers have a shot at post season magic.
