June VerSchave, resident of Bolingbrook, will receive the Athletic Director of the Year 1A/2A Division 3 in Bloomington on April 30 from the Illinois Athletic Directors Association. Ms. VerSchave, with Mt. Assisi Academy since August of 1994, became Co-Athletic Director in 2002 and Athletic Director in 2006.
At Mount Assisi, she coached varsity volleyball for eight years and, with her eldest daughter Beth, coached varsity soccer for its first year in 1998. In addition to coaching, VerSchave taught physical education and health.
With great pride, VerSchave recalls that her 1996 and 1999 volleyball teams were Regional Champions. The ?96 team went on to Sectional Finals. At present, VerSchave oversees Mount Assisi?s volleyball, basketball, track, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis, golf, and dance teams. She is also Vice-President of the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference (GCAC) which also includes being Hall of Fame Director.
VerSchave?s outstanding memories of her years as Athletic Director include working with the Mount Assisi Girls and sharing their joys. She advises high school athletes ?to work hard, give it their all, and then be proud of their best. Enjoy your sport and your teammates.?
Cheryl Broadhurst, President of Mount Assisi? s Booster Club, is elated at this outstanding recognition for June. Broadhurst, who has had four daughters who participated in sports at Mount Assisi, described VerSchave as ?enthusiastic, dedicated, and on top of every sport even to driving the school bus to events.?
Congratulations June from all of us here at the SW Sports Nest!
